Nolan Hall, maker and owner

Hi. I'm Nolan and I'm a maker.

I have a deep passion for learning and mastering (or at least attempting) new skills. My woodworking journey started at a young age helping my grandfather cut out clock pieces on a scroll saw. Since then, I have been practicing the art of woodworking and using my knowledge to make furniture pieces for clients around California and beyond. Each piece I make is custom to the dimensions, design, and aesthetic requested by the client. Although I am most passionate about modern builds, I am happy to work on anything you want to see created. I have a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech and I love to use it, too. I'm able to integrate electrical, plumbing, and mechatronic systems into my pieces if you really want something wild. Even if it can't be made, I'll still probably try. I believe there's no wasted time in the life of a maker and even if you fail, you've still learned something valuable. I carry this mentality into my builds, so if something doesn't work out the way I expect it to, I figure out a way to use it to my (and your) advantage.

I am also a volunteer construction supervisor with Habitat for Humanity where I've led roofing and framing teams for over 10 years. In 2014, I started a home remodeling company with my construction mentor and worked on everything from structural repair to finish carpentry. Now, I prefer to work on fine furniture pieces, but I'm happy to take on carpentry projects or even build on a budget. Whatever you need, let me know and I'll see if I can make it for you. Thank you!

FAQ

  • All of our materials are sustainably sourced from Northern California, Washington, and Oregon. Before we moved the business to California, our wood was sourced mostly from a private sawmill in north Georgia.

  • Most of our pieces are finished with a durable hardwax finish which is very easy to repair! Just let us know if you need us to refinish part or all of your piece and we will add it to our schedule. This will come at an additional charge depending on the scope of the work. If you wish to refinish the piece yourself, please talk to us first! We will have some tips and recommendations on products and methods.

  • Hopefully soon! Right now, we work out of a small shop in San Mateo, but we hope to expand one day into a larger space where we can include showroom pieces. For now, we will post updates on our social media accounts about when we are going to craft markets and shows if you want to see some work up close!
